DOCUMENTATION: A flaw was found in libarchive. This heap out-of-bounds read vulnerability exists in the RAR archive processing logic due to improper validation of the LZSS sliding window size after transitions between compression methods. A remote attacker can exploit this by providing a specially crafted RAR archive, leading to the disclosure of sensitive heap memory information without requiring authentication or user interaction.
STATEMENT: IMPORTANT: This heap out-of-bounds read vulnerability in libarchive's RAR archive processing logic can lead to information disclosure. A remote attacker can exploit this flaw by providing a specially crafted RAR archive, potentially revealing sensitive heap memory information without requiring authentication or user interaction on systems that process untrusted archives.
MITIGATION: Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
